2009 MLB Awards Predictions Revisited (Mon 11/30/09)

In a mid-October post I applied the Sherpa points system to final 2009 statistics to predict the winners of the MVP, Cy Young, and Rookie of the Year awards in both leagues.  How did it go?  The Sherpa points system correctly predicted all six winners, this after getting five out of six winners correct last year.  What does this prove?  Given the small sample size, absolutely nothing.  However, keep in mind that at least four of the six awards this year (the Cy Young and Rookie of the Year races in both leagues) did not have a clear winner heading into the voting.  Thus, it’s encouraging to see that the way the Sherpa values players for fantasy purposes correlates well with the way the players are valued in “real life”, at least by the baseball writers who vote on the awards.

Sherpaville is buzzing with activity as we put together our projections for the 2010 season.  We’ll let you know as soon as they’re ready.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving weekend, and best wishes for the rest of the holiday season!
